Should Nelsinho Piquet have been banned alongwith Renault ?

September 30th, 2009 at 07:01pm Under Racing

nelsinho piquet

Last week was dramatic as far as formula one controversies go, Renault got a 2 year suspended ban from formula one. Pat Symonds got a 5 year ban from formula one and flamboyant Flavio Briatore got a lifetime ban from the sport of formula one. But there were 2 peculiarities.

First one being the suspended sentence for Renault, kind of reminds on McLaren punishments during the spygate. Even over there the team pleaded ignorance to the action of 1-2 individuals in the company and even in this case the Renault formula one team pleaded the same to Briatore’s and Symond’s actions. While these may seem like valid defences in the sense that they can let you off the hook, its quite safe to say that the defences though plausible seem like long shots.

So this also brings us to the questions whether Nelsinho piquet deserved to be banned alongwith the Renault F1 team and the 2 officials. Now, there are 2 sides to the debate, 1st is the legal one. Nelsinho Piquet got immunity from the FIA for deposing in the case, sort of a whistleblower to the whole incident. Most people agree that whistleblowers deserve amnesty. But was Nelsinho really a whistleblower, he was happy crashing into walls as long as he was getting paid and his seat was secured at the Renault F1 team , when he saw that Flavio was probably going to fire him anyway, he decides to come clean and become the whistleblower. As a fan I feel that Nelsinho Piquet alongwith Renault have brought F1 into a lot of disrepute. One often gives the Ferrari team orders example for F1 controversies, but Renault took it to a new level by telling Nelsinho to crash and that too at a specific point which would cause a longer safety car period.

They not only together cheated the fans, the game , but they also cheated themselves. Its a shame that Nelsinho wasnt banned, his stay is bad for the sport and its reputation. Needless to say after the scandal, formula one will never be the same again.

AQEMU 0.7.3 Review

September 30th, 2009 at 07:55am Under Computers

Virtualization is a pretty important part of today’s server market, and it is expanding even onto desktops. For the free operating systems there are many choices, ranging from the well-known VirtualBox to the business-oriented VMware. However, there are certain disadvantages for these bigger and sometimes clunkier software packages, and that’s why some of us prefer to use the lighter and more flexible QEMU, or, with adequate hardware support, go right near the bare metal with KVM.

QEMU and KVM, although very powerful virtualization solutions, lack a graphical user interface, which can be quite annoying when you just want to test something and you don’t have the time to research obscure command-line switches. That’s why different graphical front-ends have been created, and you might be familiar with QEMU Launcher or QEMU Manager. Today we are going to review a “younger” and less known application that provides a virtualization GUI.

AQEMU is Qt-based, and it is currently available only as source code. Compilation is pretty easy and it certainly pays off, just follow the age-old “configure, make, make install” recipe. I don’t know if my unstable Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 6 was to blame, but AQEMU’s configuration script failed to detect the presence of Qt 4.5.2, so I had to remove the part that did the checking from the script, and then the compila… (read more)

Blackberry Curve 8900 Review

September 30th, 2009 at 07:55am Under Computers

In a world full of Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile, Blackberry launches quietly yet another of its smartphones with QWERTY keyboard – Blackberry Curve 8900. The device bears the Canadian company’s trademark when it comes to design and software embedded. Fans will most likely be happy as the gadget is one of the few outed by RIM last year.

After trying its hand on touchscreen smartphones, RIM continues on the same conservative line and announces a new device, which doesn’t really come up with anything new in terms of design or features. Thanks to PureMobile, we had the chance to test the BlackBerry Curve 8900, as usual a business smartphone that offers its users a complete email solution for the right price. Don’t expect fresh things, as Blackberry Curve 8900 is just a standard reliable smartphone meant for the mid-budget market.

Announced in November 2008, BlackBerry Curve 8900 was made available on the market the same month. There’s only one color available for this product and as a business phone, this is black. Curve 8900 can be bought for around 450USD unlocked and without any plan.

Design

Compared to its Bold 9000 predecessor, Curve 8900 is much smaller, but a little bit thicker. Also, I didn’t anticipate the display’s size, which is now more to my liking – 480×360 pixels. You can definitely see more on the screen, when readin… (read more)
